![]() A teacher once told me “in the absence of the positive we default to the negative”. For me its true - I have to keep an eye on my what my sort of thoughts I am having on a regular basis. There have definitely been times in my life when my mind has been more in the negative mode than the positive! Here are three remedies that have helped me: 1. Keep a notebook and write down all the negative stuff that your mind comes up with. What I found interesting about that was: a) How the thoughts kept repeating themselves, over and over again. I started ticking the repeat thoughts and actively choosing to let them go. I visualised them floating off the paper and asked The Secretary of the Universe to deal with them. Eventually they either resolved themselves or went away. b) There were often topics that needed to be sorted out – so I dealt with what I could and the rest I took to counselling. I found that often my problems were actually skills I had not developed yet. For example: I hadn’t learnt boundaries - I didn’t know what I really felt about things - Low self-esteem - Childhood issues lurking in the background that were triggering me off in the current time c) My negative voice was actually trying to take care of me, and because I had not been listening to it, it had to try all sorts of tactics to get my attention 2. I listened to positive thinking recordings (back in those days it was tapes, but now its MP3 files). Every day I filled my mind with positive affirmations, thoughts, talks and lessons. Slowly my mind began to turn around and get back into a positive space. Even now I have spells of Esther Hicks (one of my favourite speakers) – who I play on my early morning walks. 3, Finally I avoided being around TV, movies, books and people who made me feel down. My preference became on focusing on positive experiences and doing the things I liked. My mind is a precious instrument and the quality of my thoughts affects the quality of my day. Its my job to give it a healthy diet of food (my diet affects my brain), stimulation, input and finally relaxation.
